First Senior

30 years in the mobility industry

The December 2025 issue of THIIS Magazine Highlights First Senior as the company celebrates its 30th anniversary in the mobility sector. Founded in 1995 First senior has been pivotal in the growth of the mobility scooter and insurance sector. The magazine recognises this anniversary as a landmark in the company’s history and how their work over the last three decades has kept them as a constant trusted business in the industry.

What made first senior stand out from the rest is the fact they are the only finance company in the UK that operates solely within the mobility sector. Other businesses treat mobility equipment as only a part of their company whereas First Senior understood the potential in this market and grew along with it, reaching where they are today firmly at the helm of the industry. This singular focus allowed them to understand and focus on the products best but also gave them insight towards challenges dealers faced and customer needs, delivering a polished approach to their work.

How it all started

The business was founded with a clear purposeful mission, to provide finance to customers who fall outside the scope of mainstream lenders. Early on the directors recognised that there was a significant gap in the market and moved the business in the direction it is today. Over 30 years First Senior has constantly grown and adapted. What began as originally financing mobility scooters, powerchairs and stairlifts has expanded to now include manual wheelchairs, power add ons and contact hire schemes. The company has continued to grow its expertise and deliver as many positive lending decisions as responsibly as possible.

The people behind it

James Nicholls, the managing director, is open about where the groups accomplishments come from. “Our success is ultimately built on the dedication hard work, and passion of our team, which we are grateful for.” The team spirit was very much on show during the celebrations, and of course, no mention of the First Senior team would be complete without a nod to Bonnie the office dog who joined the sales team for their anniversary celebrations.

A month long celebration

For such a huge milestone, First Senior didn’t mark the occasion with a one of celebration, they took it to a whole other level. The celebrations ran for an entire month, kicking off with an office party and swiftly followed up by a quiz night. Beyond this First Senior also ran discounts and giveaways throughout the month for its network of dealers. These factors combined just go to show how much it means for them to have had such a big role in this industry for 30 years.

Looking Ahead

Thirty years in, First Senior shows no signs of standing still. With new products being added to their finance offering, the business is actively evolving to meet the changing needs of both dealers and customers.
